The over the range halogen light bulb is difficult to remove.
The halogen light bulb is very tight in the socket and difficult to remove by hand. Read reviews by other customers who had the same issue and complained that they ended up breaking the bulb trying to remove it. If broken may require an on-site service technician to remove the whole assembly with additional much higher cost and time. I found wrapping some duct tape around the burned-out bulb made it easier to grip and remove the old bulb without breaking it.
Based on some You-Tube videos I watched newer models now use LED light panels which appear to solve this problem.

Burned out lamp
This should be a 1 minute repair. However, there are a few issues. First, make sure you order the correct bulb. Mine is a halogen push in bulb, but the parts list showed a screw in bulb.
Remove power from the unit OR be sure that the light is turned off with the push switch.. The display will show the status as you rotate through the dim levels.
There is a single Phillips head screw holding the cover on the underside of the over stove microwave. carefully remove it. When loose the panel will drop down and you will find the old bulb in the center of the front of the opening. Remove the bulb. Now the important part. Carefully unpack the new bulb being careful to not touch the glass with your bare hands or fingers. Then insert the bulb into the socket.
If you unplugged the unit then plug it back in and push the switch to check that the new bulb works and is in the socket, then turn it back off.
Carefully lift the cover back into position and replace the screw. This is the hard part as you are working upside down and can't really see when it is lined up properly. When you have the screw back in and tight you are done. Press the light switch to enjoy your lit up stove again and put your tools away.
If you get your fingers on the glass bulb then clean it off with some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to remove any finger oils before you put the cover back in place. Finger oils can boil with the heat of the lit bulb and cause the glass to explode. This holds true for any halogen bulb.

Both lights burned out at the same time - does this indicate that there might be a problem elsewhere?
For model number KHMS2040BSS2
Hi Dale,
Thank you for your inquiry. If both lights went out at the same time, there may be an issue with the light sockets or the wiring connected to them. You will have to check them to see which one is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How do you remove the bulbs under the hood, and replace them? Thanks?

Hi Laura,
Thank you for your question. You would just have to unscrew one screw that holds your lens in place. Once you remove your lens, you will be able to pull out your bulb and replace it. Good luck with your repair.

One of the cook top lights burnt out. I lowered the glass hinged cover and removed the small individual lens. I tried to remove the bulb and it was very tight and I thought maybe the white baked clay piece to the rear was part of the bulb and tried to remove it with pliers and it crumbled. I have the bulb # but I am having trouble finding the # of the "plug" assembly any help. Thanks

Both lights went out are bulbs wired in phase ? And is the my problem ?
For model number KHMS2040BSS0
Hello Donald, thank you for your question. The bulbs are mounted into a light socket not wired into the unit by a wire harness. If both bulbs went out, I would check the sockets first to eliminate that as a potential issue before ordering the replacement bulbs. You may need to replace the bulbs as well as the sockets. I hope this helps!
