loud buzzing noise
The repair went well...I am so glad that I read this info before buying a new microwave....it saved me lots of money. I did have a repair man come and look at it and he told me to buy a new one but it cost alot of money when it wasn't necessary. I did the repair and I was very proud of myself.
Three men watched a woman fix this and it was no problem...they were impressed also....

Microwave slowly stopped heating food
Initially we started looking to buy a replacement microwave to replace our 13+ year old built-in microwave. It was a real pain finding a replacement to fit the exact dimensions. So I thought I'd try to find an old KitchenAid microwave. However, I was pleasantly surprised when this site came up on my search. Their website allows me to input the problems and then it showed two possible parts that needed to be replaced. I emailed tech support and asked them which part I needed. They responded very quickly and said I needed to replace the magnetron. I watched a couple YouTube videos and then pulled my microwave apart. It was incredibly easy to pull the outer cover off. The magnetron had 5 screws that needed to be removed and one electrical plug. Took me maybe 10 min to complete the entire repair. It was one of the easiest repairs I've done and so thankful for this site They saved me a ton of money from not buying a new microwave and we now have our microwave working again. In hindsight, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd order the Part now and get it fixed.

Microwave losing heating items
Took microwave out of builtin cabinet with 4 screws.
Put microwave on center island and removed cover.
Tested interlock switch with volt meter and it appeared ok so I put my kit back in box and sent back.
Took out magnetron unit and replace with new part.
Put cover back on and test.
All is working and installed back in cabinet. Two weeks later all still working great.

No heat when the microwave was in use
The instructions on the website were incredibly easy and I saved myself a lot of headache by using this site.

-it was built in unit - so I needed to pull the decorative grill from around the outside to remove it from the wall
- removing the back of the case involved removing phillips head screws from along the side and back of the unit. the only issue I encountered on removing screws was the fact that the "torx / star" screws could not be fit with the wrench that I had (they had a pin in the center that would not allow the wrench to fit into the star). However, a pair of pliers was handy and they were removed just easily.
- I had ordered both the high voltage diode and magnetron because I didn't know which item was the problem. I grounded the diode with two screwdrivers while wearing rubber gloves to be safe. the warnings on this did the trick as it was the only scary part of the operation.
- the diode was a little hard to spot looking at the schematics, but is is found on the lower right corner of the right side of the panel and easily pulled out and replaced. I tried the microwave again to see if it worked...and it did not. So I confirmed that the magnetron was the issue.
- removing the screws for the magnetron and putting in the replacement was a dead easy and I tried the microwave again before putting cover back on. Worked like a charm. Super easy!

My wife thought she was using just the timer function, but in fact had the unit on full power with nothing in the oven. It ran like this for about 10 minutes. After this the oven would not generate heat. Everything else is working perfectly. In my research I have found that it is either the "diode" or the "magnetron". Which do you think it is?

Hi Mark, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing/replacing the diode first as it is the most common issue. If this is not the issue the magnetron will need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

As the microwave was being used we thought we smelled something burning but could not quite figure it out. Then a couple of more times as the days went on it was clear there was a burning smell coming from the vents of the microwave and finally it stopped heating things up. It runs as if nothing is wrong but the food does not heat up and there is no more burning smell. Can this be the magnetron or something else?

Hello Tammy, Thanks for your question. Your issue is most likely due to the transformer in the unit. Be aware, however, that only a licensed technician should attempt to diagnose and install the part due to the electrical charges the microwave parts can hold even after the unit is unplugged. I hope this helps.

Oven began to run turntable when door open. Sometimes if i unplug it will reset and will operate normally. Recently unplugging will allow circuit board to set time but not heat, while occasionally will operate normally for a while and then shut off. I have checked door switches 110 volts to transformer, light fan normal. Pulled magnetron ande antenna has burned area with hole in it. Thought to replace magnetron and order diode also. Will any 2m46 050df work?

Hi Robert, Thank you for your question. No, you will need to use the magnetron and diode that is made for your microwave. The part number listed under your model number for the magnetron is PS11731447 and the part number listed for the diode is PS11745270. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Microwave stopped heating and there is a loud thumping sound when the table is turning. Is this a magnetron problem?
For model number kcms2055sss-2

Hi John, Thank you for your question. If the microwave is not heating, the issue is likely either the magnetron or the door switches and you will need to check them to see which parts are causing the issue. The magnetron is a high voltage part. Please use extreme caution when you are handling it. If you are not comfortable handling this part, you will need to get a technician to help you. If you are hearing a thumping noise when the table is turning, you will need to check the turntable, the glass tray and the turntable motor to see which parts are causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hello Gil, thank you for writing. It sounds like you may need to replace the Diode. When the diode fails, it is often visibly burned out. Inspect the diode and if the diode is burned out, replace it. If inspecting the diode proves inconclusive, test it with a multimeter that uses a 9-volt battery or put a 9-volt battery in series with the diode. When the leads are reversed, the diode should only have continuity in one direction. (Warning: The microwave oven can store a lethal amount of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the high running voltage and the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace the diode.)

The microwave is built in above the oven. My wife set the oven to self clean which generated tremendous heat on the microwave above. Now the microwave does not have power. I checked the circuit breaker and then replaced the fuse. The microwave still does not have power. Any next thoughts?

Hello Pat, thank you for inquiring. You will want to consider replacing either the Door Interlock Switch Kit, part number PS373050, or the Turntable Motor, part number PS11749221 for your microwave. Here is a link to some information on our website for testing the Interlock Switches: https://www.partselect.ca/Microwave+test-door-switch+repair.htm. Good luck with your repair!

Hello there is no heat with my microwave but everything else works. I am thinking it is the magnetron. Can I easily replace it by myself?

Hello Fred, Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, several parts in the microwave (including the magnetron) can carry an electrical charge even after the microwave is unplugged. We can only recommend having a licensed technician test (and install if needed) the part. I hope this helps.
