Product Description
Lower Door Closing Cam Specifications
The lower door closing cam is used in refrigerator doors, it can be located on the fresh food side or the freezer side. It helps hold the door open. This cam is made out of plastic, so it might crack or wear down over time. If your door will not open and close properly you may need to replace the door closing cam. To successfully install this part, you will need a 5/16 nut driver and a small flat blade screwdriver. Before you begin, unplug your appliance and disconnect the water supply. Lubricating this part may help with installation. This replacement part is sold individually. This part will fit both the left and right side of your refrigerator door. To make the repair, remove the top hinge cover, then the top hinge support. Lift the door from the bottom support and remove the old door cams. Replace the cams, using a little lubricant if necessary, and place the door back on the lower hinge support. Replace the top hinge support and your repair is complete!

Part replacement
Hi..No issues with the installation what-so-ever. Correct part. Delivery however is somewhat suspect...even taking into account the pandemic situation...The parcel was thrown onto the front stoop. The 5 steps were not used and obviously the doorbell was not sounded to advise of the delivery. I really don't know when it was delivered....I just went to the mail box mounted on the balcony rail and there it was on the deck below the DOOR BELL. The house has been continually occupied. Hopefully the insurance coverage would reimburse for product loss.

Easy repair - but wish it lasted longer
As always, order was filled accurately and arrived quickly. I've done this repair to our fridge door three or four times now, and maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the longest the door has closed properly after the repair was about two years (made first repair when fridge was about 10 years old). I did the most recent repair in November 2018. Less than four months later, the door was again beginning to require a bit of a shove to get it to close. Not sure what the problem is -- the parts, the technician (me), or maybe the fridge door is not perfectly lined up causing the parts to wear faster than they should. I haven't installed the latest set of upper and lower door cams yet -- I'll wait til the door gets really bad -- but hoping for better results. Also, it may be coincidence, but when I ordered the parts for the November 2018 repair, I noted that someone had recommended that the screws that attach the door cams should also be replaced, so -- for the first time -- I also replaced the screws. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea...or maybe it's just coincidence that the latest set of parts started to fail within a few months. Regardless, it's great that PartSelect has such a wide selection of parts for older appliances, at reasonable prices. Also nice to benefit from the advice of others on repairs...over the years, PartSelect has saved me a bundle on "professional help."

The refrigerator door was difficult to maintain closed
Because the lower cams are made out of hard plastic the repeated opening and closing of the door wore them out. The hardest part was taking all of the food that is normally stored in the door.
First step was to determine whether the screws were metric or US standard - they are metric. The next step was to remove the top hinge in order to remove the door and replace the bottom cams and brackets. This took a couple of minutes, replacing the cams was about 5 minutes and putting the door back on the pivot and reattaching the top hinge was another couple of minutes.
If I had called a service tech they would have charged a minimum of two hour and for the parts. I estimate that I saved myself about $100.

Door was making a clunking noise
The door is very easy to remove. There is one nut for the cap on the top of the soor hinge. Once the cap is removed, you need to remove the 3 nuts holding the hinge in place. Simply lift the door off the lower hinge and rest it on the dining room table. I set towels down to protect the stainless finish. The closing cam will be visible on the bottom of the door. I choose to replace the lower cam and the upper cam at the same time. I did not know what the problem cam was. The door works good as new. I put a small amount of vaseline where the two cams rub to provide a lubricant.

We noticed the Refridgerator door had dropped and found the lower cams to be broken and worn.
First I removed the bolt that holds the cover on the top hinge bracket. Then I removed all items from the shelves inside the door by lifting the shelves out and placing them on the counter. Next I removed the 3 screws holding the hinge bracket on, this disconnects the top of the door from the cabinet. Then I lifted the door off the lower cam, removed the screws that held the cam in place on the door and the lower bracket on the cabinet and replaced the cams. I smeared some Vaselene on the cams and placed the door back on the lower cam, reconnected the upper hinge and replaced the hinge cover. All done and it works great!

Worn out door plastic cam
Replaced the door cam on bottom of fridge door. ONE THING TO UNDERSTAND- THERE ARE 2 CAMS ON THE DOOR, LOWER AND UPPER, BUT THE UPPER CAM IS NOT LISTED ON THE "DOOR HARDWARE" DRAWING, ITS LISTED ON THE MAIN BODY DRAWING! BE SURE TO GET BOTH CAMS! (PARTSELECT COULD MAKE A NOTE THAT WHEN PEOPLE LOOK UP LOWER CAM, PUT A NOTE IN THERE SAYING Y0U NEED UPPER TOO!)So I had to order the upper cam later and install later. BUT it is quite easy to replace, unlike the video, I only needed 1 tool! The nut driver (electric screwdriver w nut driver head). Thanks -RF

Frige Door Wouldn't Stay Closed, Would open when freezer door was closed.
Parts arrived at 2:30PM.
Read instructions, gathered tools, and went to work. I'd already watched an online video at your site on how to do the repair.
Removed the hinge cover covering the hinge top by using a nut driver to remove the single screw holding it in place. (The video described an older frige and it did not have a screw. I figured that out when I finally went and got a ladder. I had tried to pop it out like the video shows.) There are three screws holding the hinge top in place. I tried using the nut driver to remove the screws but they were pretty firmly in place. I resorted to using my ratchet wrench and that made it easy. (Keep track of your screws, one of mine rolled under a cereal box on top of the frige and I thought I would never find it.)
I had emptied out all the items on the door of the frige, removing the shelves. It was easy to lift the door off of the bottom hinge and lay it on its side against the ladder. At this point I had my son hold the door steady (its kind of unwieldy and 'slippery' when you are trying to remove a screw from the bottom of the door.)
I removed the screw that held the plastic Door Closer, Upper Cam using the nut driver. I used a straight bladed screw driver to pry the old part out of the door (it has an insert for the hinge pin and it had been in place a long time). I also cleaned off the bottom of the frige door (you would be surprised what gets stuck on there - obviously someone spilled oranged juice on the floor and it splashed up on the bottom of the door). The old part had a lot of particle dust that came off it when I removed it. The new part popped right into place and I screwed it back in. The video shows that the repairman had to use a drill and tap set to rethread a larger hole but I just put the old screw back and it held fine. The video also showed the repairman adjusting the Door Stop Bracket but I didn't have to do that, the new cam installation wasn't impeded by the bracket.
I moved to the frige cabinet (again, good to have a second pair of hands to keep track of the door and not let it get damaged while I turned my attention to the Door Closer, Lower Cam. I used the nut driver to remove the screw holdin it to the hinge bottom. It came off easily (it practically fell apart and turned to dust). I placed the new cam and screwed it in using the old screw. No problem.
You could put the door back on with one person but it helps to have two. One to manhandle the door and the other to place it on the lower hinge post.
I put the upper hinge back on and put in the three screws but I left them lose so that I could adjust the door. When I tighted the single screw closest to the door after positioning the door, we tested how it opened and it was hitting the side of the interior cabinet when it closed - you could feel it dragging and it made a clunk/swoosh sound. We readjusted the door using the outside upper corner as a guide and retightened the screw. This time there was no problem. We tighted the other two screws using the ratchet wrench and then put the plastic hinge cover back on with the single screw using the nut driver.
Took us about 25 minutes and made my wife very happy (biggest benefit). The door now 'locks' open and 'locks' closed just like when we bought it and the two doors are aligned (level accross the top) which should have been a dead giveaway that the door closing cams had worn down.
Done by 3:00PM.

Refrigerator door fails to close on its own like it is designed to.
The design of this refrigerator door (it's a side-by-side) is somewhat unbelievable. The door is designed to hold things, yet when you do the weight of the door wears out the lower door cams. The cams are designed to "complete the door closing", i.e. when you gently push on the door the cam mechanism takes over. When the cams wear, the door fails to close. Note to others - you may mistakenly think that the failure of the door to close is related to the seal; it is not.
The repair is quite easy; remove the upper cover, using a not driver (socket), then remove the upper door bracket. Make sure you hold the door or have someone else hold it. After the fasteners are removed gently lift up on the door and remove it from the lower cam assembly. You will see two plastic cam pieces; one on the lower bracket and one on the door. Both need to be changed to effectively "renew" the door closing mechanism. Once the cams are replaced the door can be reassembled to the refrigerator.

Door would not auto close
I removed the screws on the upper hinge and removed the door. I removed the lower cam in about 2 minutes and had it replaced. The upper cam was a tight fit in the door and I resorted to vise-grips to remove it. Total time to replace cams and put the door back on was 30 minutes. This saved me $100.

When I close my refrigerator door it a) doesn’t stay closed and b) is lower than the freezer door. I was told I need cams for my fridge door but I’m not sure how many I need and where they go. Thanks in advanced!!!
Hello Julia, you are right, if your refrigerator door is not staying closed you should replace the door cams. To make this repair you will need the lower door closing cam WP2182179 and the door cam WPW10329686. Both parts are black in color. You are very welcome, I hope this helps!

The refrigerator door sags about an half inch from the top and rubs on the bottom and does not close by itself. Is the hinge cam bad? The freezer door works good. Thank you
For model number 25355333600
Hi Al,
Thank you for your question. If the door is not closing correctly, the cam would be one part to check. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the hinge bearing, the closer plate, the left and right hinges, the upper hinge bearing, the door stop, the hinge bearing closer, the hinge mounting screw and the upper hinge bracket. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

A plastic part broke off of refridge door. The part i need is the whole piece that is under the door when opened. If you open the door , run your hand under door and part goes all the way along underneath door and fits around hinge thing on right side can't find this part anywhere in parts section. It's gray in color since my fridge is stainless. In other words i need the whole piece that is underneath my door. Me fridge has freezer at bottom with 2 side by side doors
For model number Wrf560seym05
Hi Angela, thank you for your question. The piece you are talking about is actually part of your door. It is not a part that is offered separately from it. You would have to replace your door to replace that part. Good luck with your repair.

My fridge door suddenly stopped closing on its own. Which cams do i need to purchase in order to fix it?
For model number ed5gvexvd07
Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for your question. I would suggest you taking a look at your door cams and bushings to see if they have worn down. I would also suggest checking the leveling of your appliance as well. If your appliance is not level, your door will open. If all of those parts are fine however, you may have to look at replacing your door gasket. I hope this helps. Good luck with your repair.

I own a whirpool refrigerator (serial # hr34801229) and have recently noticed an unusual noise when opening and closing the refrigerator door. It is not (yet) noticeably harder to close the door itself but the noise of doing so is new. Any idea of what ,may be the cause of this noise? Thank you ken hall - 317 752-3160
For model number wps342F1amoo
Hello Ken, thank you for your question. If the noise is coming from the bottom of the door where the hinge and door meet. There are two plastic pieces that help to open and close the door easily and when they deteriorate they can make noise. The two parts are HINGE-DOOR Part Number: PS12070437 and Lower Door Closing Cam Part Number: PS11739042. I hope this helps!

Does my refrigerator fresh food door have a "closing cam? I recently have had to push the door closed the last one-half inch or so.
For model number EHT201ZKWR3
Hello Paul, Thank you for your inquiry. Your model has a plastic washer, a lower hinge pin, a bottom hinge, hinge plate, and door stop instead of a closing cam. I would check the screws to make sure they are tight, and each part of the hinge to be sure it's not damaged. Hope this helps!
