Defrost Heater Assembly Specifications
The defrost heater is similar to the burners on an electric stove. It's located just beneath the cooling coils, which are concealed behind a panel in the freezer compartment. The heater gets hot. And, because it's close to the cooling coils, any ice or frost build-up melts.

Recently had water on the top back shelves. Appears to be coming from freezer in back.? do you think is causing this?
For model number W1TXEMMWTOO
Hello Frank, thank you for your question. There is a drain port that drains all the defrosted water into the back of the unit to be evaporated in the evap pan at the bottom of the fridge. Chances are the drain port is blocked with debris or ice, which is causing the water to come down from the freezer to the top shelves of the fridge. We would recommend removing the back panel of the freezer and locating that port. Pour a bit of water into the port and see if the water comes out of the bottom of the freezer and into the pan. If it does not, defrost that port by pouring hot water down inside the unit. If you have a buildup of ice or frost in the back of the freezer there could be any issue with the heater or the defrost thermostat. I hope this helps!

My whirlpool refrigerator is not defrosting. I believe the problem is the heating element or the defrost timer. Does this part include the defrost cycle timer? Can you provide instruction as to how does this part attach to my appliance? (PS I've verified that the water channel from the back of the freezer to the evaporator tray is not clogged.)

Hello James, Thank you for the question. The Defrost Timer is sold separate from the Defrost heater. We have linked a How to video on how to replace the timer. What will cause water to keep freezing up in the condensate drain line? I blew out the line so I know it’s clear, but it keeps getting an ice plug in it. Evap doesn’t seem to have any ice on it or anything.
