The function of the refrigerator door switch is to turn on the light when your fridge door is open, and to make sure it is off when your refrigerator door is closed. while closing the door, the light switch fouled, resulting in the switch breaking
I used a flat screwdriver and released the lock tab on the bottom of the light switch, and pried the switch out, being careful to not damage the plastic around the mounting place of the switch, unplugged wiring from old switch, plugged in the new one and pushed the new switch into place. Job finished light switch now working.

Light Switch Was Faulty--Failed A Few Months After Purchase Of The Refrigerator
I had several times tried to get the old switch out but with no success. Ordered the "repair kit" and followed directions for removing old switch (there is a plastic spring clip on one side). Easy to unplug the old switch, plug the leads into the new one, snap the new one into place. Took about 5 minutes total--piece of cake. I wish I'd thought to try this years ago when the old switch began to fail.

my freezer kept icing up and the light switch was broken
I carefully took the clear plastic piece out of the top of the refrigerator. I removed two screws, unsnapped the white plastic cover and unplugged the old defrost timer and plugged in the new one. I then replaced everything in reverse order.

Switch broke and would not light the refrig compart
The repair descripition was accurate. The difficult part was getting the old switch out. It has a release clip that is hard to reach. It took several tries and a bit of force to get the old part to release from the cabinet.

In stalling the new part was easer that the instructions explaned. There was no need to split the original plug. I unplugged the old switch, plugged in the new and snapped it into place. 30 seconds after I started the reinstall it was in the cabinet and working

Light switch had broken off and so the light would not go on when the door was opened. Vegetable crisper drawer had broken along the sides.
We unplugged the refrigerator, used a knife to pry out the old switch. Cut the extra prong off of the new switch and connected the switch to the wire connectors. Slid the switch back into place plugged the refrigerator back into the outlet and . . . . . . Wah, lah, the light and switch worked again. We washed and then simply slid the vegetable crisper into the holder and replaced the one that had broken. This was a really great experience and it was quick and easy to fix on our own.!

Broke the Rocker Switch in Fridge side
Popped out with butter knife and unplugged 3 prong connector and reversed with anew switch.

But, unfortunately it got broken again exactly same way as before.
So, I ordered same switch again for 2nd time.

Maytag should recall that Rocker Switch and build with better materials.

ice maker stopped making ice, I found water inlet to ice maker frozen. Defrosted freezer, it made less than two trays and stopped again. WHAT DO I DO ??
For model number 59679349510
PartSelect logo
Hi Tom, Thank you for your question. If the water line from the water inlet valve to the ice maker was frozen, you will need to verify if these 2 parts are working correctly as the components of these parts may have been damaged. You should also check the fill tubes and the cycling thermostat. We have included a link that you may reference on how to check some of these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please feel free to call customer service. We are open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Hello Terry and thank you for writing. Sometimes the switch is stuck due to debris built up, so unplug your unit and wash around the switch with warm soapy water and see if that helps. For your convenience, we have attached the link to our repair video (not sure if you seen this one). We hope this helps. Does the light switch on the freezer side have anything to do with water and ice dispensing? Light works, freezer works, filter replaced, dispensing control board replaced, but still not dispensing water or ice. Thanks
For model number GI5FSAXVY02
PartSelect logo
Hello Ken, Thank you for your question. Our sources do not show any correlation with the light switch affecting the ice and water dispenser, but if the water filter has already been replaced, we suggest replacing the water inlet valve under part PS2069865 for your model to fix the dispenser issues. We hope this helps.

Will not dispense water or make ice WRF989SDAM02
For model number WRF989SDAM02

Hello Guy and thanks for writing. If the refrigerator ice maker is not working the water filter might be clogged. Try changing the water filter. If the ice maker is not working the icemaker mold thermostat might be defective. Inside the control module of the ice maker is a thermostat that monitors the temperature of the ice mold (ice tray). We hope this helps. Please contact us at any time
