GE Microwave turns on when door is opened
I saw a similar problem description at partselect.com and was confident to take the challenge to repair it myself. (Thanks to partselect.com). When I opened the microwave cover I found 3 similar switches. 2 of them works the same way and the other in reverse direction. Image diagram provided to buy parts is helpful to identify the switch.
Steps:
Remove the built-in microwave from the wall and keep it in an open space.
Remove the microwave screws and take the cover out.
Remove the 2 screws(inside) from the plastic panel where switches are snapped in
Gently remove the faulty switch and replace with the new one.
(In my case the topmost secondary door switch was broken)

After closing door the display panel must be tapped on to keep the unit operating.
The switches are not the problem! The problem is in the tolerences of the latch housing. I have ordered two new housings (Upper & Lower) and will see if the tolerences are closer. If not I will try epoxying a shim to the plate that operates the microswitches. The other option is to file the mounting slots of the housing to allow adjustment, which would be iffy, keeping them from moving with use. The exploded drawings really need to be clarified. The scale is way too small. It was extremely difficult to pick out the individual parts of the mechanisiam.

Microwave would not go on
All electrical worked (fan, lights, control panel) door switch was broke. Pulled the oven out. Took out two big screws from the cabinet above. (be careful not to drop oven)Set the oven on kitchen counter. Took off five screws that held the vent cover. Removed vent cover. Took out one screw that held the control panel. Lifted, turned and slid the panel into the space below so I could get to the upper door switch. Replace door switch and re-assemble.

Microwave powered up when door was opened
After researching on line and watching installation videos, ordered all three switches and installed. Disassembly of microwave was simple, removing the bracket holding the switches was a little tricky, it sits behind a metal post and you have to angle and wiggle it out. One note of caution when replacing all three switches, be sure to install correct switch in correct location. Had two of one style switch and one of a second style, and put one in wrong place, causing microwave to power up again when door was opened. After thinking it through and doing a second disassembly, and double checking installation instructions, corrected problem and microwave now works fine.

Microwave wouldn’t shut off when door was opened
Followed the online videos to enter the cavity to the switch holder. Noticed right away the dreaded capacitor was in back right corner behind where the touch pad had been removed. I isolated the capacitor with an old computer mouse pad for extra safety. Took some manipulations to get the switch mount out from behind the wire bundles. Once out front, easy to use small flat blade screwdriver to release each switch and replace with matching new switch. Only one switch was bad but replaced all three. Back together and working great.

The microwave turntable rotates when the door is open.
This is sometimes described in other repair notes as "microwave 'runs' when door is open."
With power disconnected: Remove the microwave's metal grill surround. Three lower screws accessible with lower oven door open. Two screws accessible at top of microwave door opening with door open.
Remove microwave control panel: Remove two femaleTorx head screws (#27?) that secure the panel, accessible at right side of door opening. The right side of the control panel is secured by plastic tabs fitting into slots in the oven frame. Take good care to note how these tabs disengage from the slots (lift and shift). Tab breakage very possible! Once disengaged, the panel hinges outward and downward and is self-supported. It may be necessary to guide some of the wiring out of the way to fully lower.
There are three door switches, one "monitor" and two "secondary" switches. All switches are housed in a plastic frame, which must be lifted out of position for access, each switch is retained by flexible plastic, breakable-looking hooked fingers. Also note that the electrical connectors have tiny release tabs that must be depressed in order to pull them off of the switches. In my case the topmost switch, one of the "secondary" switches, was clearly bad since there was no "snap" or click when pressing the switch's button. Maybe you can determine which switch is bad before proceeding but I had ordered all three to avoid going through this exercise again any time soon.
Replace switch or switches, place switch carrier back into position and otherwise reverse the disassembly steps.

Hi Tom, That is a great question! The bottom switch on the latch body is another Secondary Switch part number PS237421. The top and bottom are the same switch and the middle is the Monitor. Good luck with this repair!

I read somewhere that you should make sure the capacitor is discharged before you work on a microwave. How do you find the capacitor and how do you discharge it?
For model number jvm1950sr1ss
PartSelect logo
Hi Jack, Thank you for your inquiry. The capacitor is found in the back of your microwave. The capacitor is discharged by creating a short circuit between the two capacitor terminals and from each terminal to chassis ground. For the proper procedure to discharge the capacitor, you will need to consult your owners manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I have 3 dor switches on my micro. Looking at diagram, only 2 switches are called out with numbers, door switch #29 (upper) & #30 (middle) in the diagram, they show as two different switches upper wb24x829 and middle wb24x30. No number for the lowest switch. However when i look at the switches on my particular unit, the upper and middle switch are the same and the lower 3rd switch is a different number. What should i order to replace all 3 switches? Which goes where? Follow what is on my unit or per the diagram? The switche have never been replaced. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Matt, Thank you for your question. If the microwave is not working when the door is closed, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the fuse, the secondary door switch, the monitor door switch, the light socket, the drive motor, the thermostat cut-off and the thermal cut-out fuse. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Microwave buzzes when close door. Stops buzzing if left open. Which switch do I need to replace?
For model number JEM31SF001

My microwave fan motor run every time no stop door seitch ok some panel button no work
PartSelect logo
Hello Reinaldo, Thank you for the question. With the information provided, sounds like a stuck keypad, Part Number: PS2374119. The fan button could be stuck on and not allowing it to turn off. This would also explain some buttons working and others not. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Can I get to the interior light to replace it or do I need a technician to come out and do it? I'd much rather do it myself...but I saw on another site a call needed to be scheduled. Thanks!!
For model number JEM25DM3BB
PartSelect logo
Hi Christy, Thank you fort he question. You can do the repair on your own but you will need to be very careful and discharge the Capacitor. It can hold a charge long after the microwave has been disconnected from its power source. You will need to touch the blade of a insulated handle screwdriver to one of the capacitor terminals and hold it there for a few seconds. Repeat this process a few times. Hope this helps!

Microwave was working fine until one day about 1 min into heating the normal hum and table stopped. Turning off power for 10 min would fix it. Now turning off power doesn’t help. Keypad works fine, microwave light turns on with door open, exhaust still works. It will even count down but no heat. What should i check?
For model number PVM1870SM1SS
PartSelect logo
Hello Jason, thank you for your question. I would recommend checking the line fuse, the diode and door switches first. If those all test as being working parts, you might need the magnetron. I hope this helps!

Hi Christy, Thank you for your question. The light bulb should be in a socket located in housing compartment on the inside of the microwave in the top right corner. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
