Product Description
Light Bulb - 40W Specifications
This 40w light bulb is a replacement bulb constructed of glass and metal. It is an easy-to-install electrical part which produces 40w of light. If the bulb won't light up then it may be broken and should be replaced. The bulb attaches directly to an appropriate light socket and has a small screw-in base. To access the exterior light bulb, you will need to remove the panel on the bottom of the microwave using a Phillips screwdriver. If your exterior light bulb has not been changed before, it is probably held in place with some silicone. You will need to cut away this silicone to remove the old bulb. If you cannot access the silicone with a utility knife, it can be removed using dental floss. Once the silicone is removed, simply unscrew the old bulb, and replace it with the new one. Be sure to disconnect the power to the microwave before you begin this repair. This light bulb measures about 1 1/8 inches. We do not recommend using a higher-wattage bulb for this appliance, and can only recommend this specific bulb. If fixing the bulb does not solve your microwave light issue, it's possibly a problem with the socket, which means the socket and/or board will need to be replaced. This can be a more dangerous repair, so consult your user manual or a technician before attempting.

Excellent product!
I had bought a replacement light at a local hardware store. Itqas not bright enough and burnt within a week. The one I ordered on this site is nice and bright and still working after several weeks. I recommend this company for hard to find parts.

Burned out light under microwave and Filters needed changing
I just removed the multiple screws which held the hood cover on. I then attempted to remove the light bulbs from the socket. This proved impossible because the bulbs were so fragile from the heat and grease build up. To make this task much easier and probably safer, just replace the bulb housing and light bulb. The bulb housing unplugs very easily. Just replace it then screw your new bulb in. P.S. Be sure to unplug appliance before you start.
The filters are very easy to replace. No tools needed.
Hope this helps.

light bult needed to be replaced
The nightmare was that this microwave is installed under the cabinet....in order to get to the light bulb I had to pull out my stove then squeeze into the space between the stove and counter....my old microwave light bult was much easier to change.....Shame on Whirlpool for making this so difficult.....must be a better way to cover the light bulb so that we do not need a screwdriver to remove the door to get to the light bulb

light bulb burned out
when removing the bulb the base broke off and there was an ark took place as I had made a mistake and didn't unplug the unit before working on it , thought with the light switch off it was ok, but still had power in that area . So ALWAYS uplug before making repairs.
The whole unit was dead and I checked for power at the plug and it was live. after unpluging I took the main control panel off and discovered a fuse was blown and replaced it along with a new socket and bulb and now it works like new . the fuses are inside small plastic capsuals so I back probed them with continuity light to find the blown fuse .
It was quite simple once I found how to get the panels off. Just basic common sence will take care of most appliance problems
thanks

Light bulb burned out and socket shorted out
Unplugged the microwave to de-energize the unit. Removed 1 screw and the shroud on the range hood light; removed the light bulb. Removed 4 screws from each side and the front of the metal plate on the underside of the unit. Carefully lowered the plate to expose the light socket. Noted which wire was connected to each terminal (they are color-coded), then released the spring clip connectors from the terminals. Removed the 1 screw holding the socket in place then reversed the procedure to install the replacement parts.

Burned out light bulbs in microwave hood stove
I had some difficulty removing the glass plate because of the awkward (upside down) position of the screw that retained it. After replacing the burned out bulbs and replacig the glass plate the problem of replacing the screw involved my dropping the thing several times before I got the screw threads to catch. I got a screw thread to catch enough to hold the glass plate in position and left it at that.

blown dual element lightbulb
The hard part was trying to find the light bulb locally. The locally sold light bulbs were either too long, not dual element or not powerful enough. So I ordered the light bulb straight from PartSelect. When it came time to install the new light bulb I carefully removed the screw holding the plate in position so as not to loose it in my gas stove. I needed the mirror to line up the light bulb and screw it in. Once it was in I verified operation and closed up the plate being careful not to drop the screw into my gas stove. Problem solved.

Change broken 40W light bulb on Over-the-range Microwave
The original bulb came apart while unscrewing it from the back of the microwave, leaving the metal screw thread contact still in the socket. Since this is an over-the-range micriwave there isn't enough room to manuever needle nose pliers into the socket to remove the screw thread contact. So this is how we were able to remove it.
Unplug power cord.
Take a standard wine bottle cork and whittle down one end until it fits in the socket. Then, using a bit of pressure push the cork into the socket snd begin unscrewing the screw thread contact until it comes out of the socket. Works like a charm!

The exterior light bub just fell out when i removed the cover. Only the glass part of the bulb came out. I assume the stem is still in the appliance. Have tried to get it out without removing entire microwave from the wall. Any suggestions

The exterior light didn't turn, so i bought a new light bulb, but now the problem with it is that i install the bulb it automatically turns on and stay on in all positions of the light switch it doesn't turn off. I can see the switch changes positions when pushed on the display, but the light keeps on
For model number WMH31017FS0
Hello Daniel, thank you for your question. If the light stays on, and doesn't turn off in any capacity the issue is probably with the electronic control Part Number: PS11765762. You can test the socket to be sure that isn't the issue, but most likely the board itself, which contains the light switch options, needs to be replaced. I hope this helps.

I'm trying to remove the stem from the underside of my over the stove microwave. The glass bulb broke off, leaving the metal stem in place.
Hi Christine, Thank you for the question.First unplug the appliance. There are a few tricks you can try. One way is to use an empty soda bottle. Remove the cap from the bottle and melt the threaded top a bit and screw it into the socket where the broken off stem is. The melted threads should catch the stem and allow you to unscrewed from the socket. You can also use a pair of pliers, insert the pliers into the socket and open them up so the points are firm against the sides of the stem. Next turn the pliers so they unscrew the stem from the socket.Hope this helps!

The exterior bulb has burned out. Is it possible to replace it with a dimmable led bulb instead? The halogen bulb gets too hot and isn't bright enough.
For model number vmh31017fb-0
Hello Craig, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the only bulb that is recommend and available for that unit is Light Bulb - 40W Part Number: 8206232A. This is a 40W bulb, and unless your unit has an option for different settings like hi, low, there is no way to add a dimmer bulb to the unit as the control functions wouldn't allow for that type of bulb. I hope this information helps!

Got the bulb out after it broke off. New one is too long. Are there 2 sizes of 40 watt bulbs?
For model number MMV5208WW1
Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for your question. For the underside of your microwave there is only 1 size of bulb. According to your model information. This should be the correct bulb for the underside of your microwave. Good luck with your repair.

Hello, when i removed the cooktop bulb, only the bulb came out. In the process of removing the threaded metal part with needlenose pliers (dumb move in hindsight), there was a loud pop and now the microwave doesn't work at all. I'm assuming it's the main microwave fuse that needs to be replaced. Is that a logical conclusion, and if yes, do you sell that fuse? Thanks so much for your help.
For model number Whirlpool WMH5320CS-5
Hello Paris, thank you for your question. Yes, the most likely issue is the fuse, part number W10138793. If this part blows you will not have any power to the unit. When it blows you usually hear a pop noise as well. I hope this helps!
