Freezer compartment is getting ice build up back corner below ice maker & on backwall
For model number fgun2642lf2

Hello Mike, thank you for your question. The most likely issue is with the thermostat or the heater itself. More often the thermostat needs to be replaced. Test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter. Also check the motor to be sure its turning and blowing cold air into the fridge from the freezer. I hope this helps!

My refrigerator has been running at a high temperature. With the freezer running normal, by replacing the defrost thermostat will I fix the issue. Large amounts of frost has accumulated in the evaporator coils and I noticed that the attached defrost thermostat has the cap removed. Your thoughts.
For model number FGHN2866PF1

Hello Carl, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Defrost Thermostat. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. We hope this helps!

Been Manually defrosting my freezer every few weeks when the temp starts to rise. I replaced the thermostat as recommended in the others. This time I checked it and it read closed when I pulled it (frozen). It measured open after it warmed up, so I put it back in. What do I check next?
