Refrigerator not cooling
I took out the plate that covers the evaporator in the freezer with 3/8 nut driver. I removed the clips holding on the fan cover and used the pliers to take the fan off the old motor. I then took the old motor out, affixed the fan to the new motor and replaced the motor and fan assembly. I reassembled the entire fan assembly and reinstalled the evaporator plate

Hey there, i'm curious if this defrost thermostat would be compatible with my fridge. My model # does not bring up any results whatsoever! If typed in google "Kenmore 970 428121 and manual." it brings up a sears canada factory parts catalog in pdf form. According to this catalog the factory part # for the defrost thermostat kit that appears to be the same design and construction as this model is 5303918202.

Hello, I ordered the defrost thermostat and I changed it. I put the new one but it still makes a lot of ice, two days and I have to clean it myself. I would appreciate a lot if you could tell me what other part I have to change or how can I check if the defrost thermostat is I put well. Thank you.

Hello Elias, Thank you for the question. When the appliance is making too much ice we suggest checking to be sure the bucket is properly positioned directly under the icemaker. The Shut off arm will need to know when the ice maker is full and to stop making ice. If this does not fix the issue, the Ice Maker may need to be replaced. We hope this helps!

At what temperature does the defrost thermostat open/close? Is it a simple klixon on switch?
For model number fftr1817lwo
PartSelect logo
Hello Carl, thank you for writing. It should be open at room temperature. You can test it with a multi-meter. The multi-meter will display 0.000 if the Defrost Thermostat is in the closed position, and should be in the closed position when it is cold. To check to be sure that it is opening at the proper temperature, place it in water and slowly heat the water. When the Defrost Thermostat opens, the multi-meter will display an O.L., indicating that there is no continuity through it. If there is no 0.000 when it is cold, or an O.L. when it is hot, then the thermostat is bad and should be replaced. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair!

Why is the freezer icing over while the refrigerator is warm?
For model number FFTR1814TW8
PartSelect logo
Hello Deborah, thank you for your question. When you are having temperature problems in your fridge, there are a few parts that could cause the issue. You can use a multi meter to test these parts. Make sure you cut power to your appliance before doing any repairs or tests. First you should test your defrost thermostat, part number: PS6448122. Place the thermostat in ice cold water for 2-3 minutes after removing it from your appliance. It should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. Another part to check would be your defrost heater, part number: PS3408665. Remove it from the appliance. It should be reading anywhere between 0 - 50 ohms to be working. You could check your temperature sensor. To find the correct reading for this part you will have to refer to your tech sheet that comes with your appliance. You can usually find this tech sheet behind the bottom grille of your fridge on either the right or left side. These are the most common parts that cause this issue in your appliance. So, it is suggested you check them first. We hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Does this fridge have a defrost timer or climate control switch? Fridge won't stop leaking brown liquid into the compartment from the freezer. Cleared the drain line already. Is defrost failing? What part do I need?
For model number FFTR1715LBH
PartSelect logo
Hello James, thank you for your question. The liquid could be oil leaking out of the compressor PS11770703. The compressor is what pushes the refrigerant through the cooling system within your refrigerator. Or, a blocked defrost Drain Tube PS430889 is one of the most common causes of rusty brown water leaking from your refrigerator. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you.
