The water dispenser flow was very slow and the housing leaked when the filter was removed.
Removed front plastic grill and screws holding the filter in place. Also removed lower back cardboard panel to access water lines. Video on this website told me how to remove water lines from filter, you must depress a collar around the water line while pulling out the water line. Then install the new Water Filter Housing and water lines. The only problems I had was the tight space to work in and one of the water lines was leaking, but pushing the water line in further solved the problem.

Water filter housing wasn't let the water go through the filter
I got model number off my unit and order the part. That was after trying a lot of different filters first. I did a rush order so I got it in 2 days. Pulled the unit out to shut the water off. Then took the back off so I could take the 2 screws that hold the water value . That way I wouldn't have to go back and forth. Now I went to the front. I already had had the vent cover at the bottom of the unit off. I had a head lap on so to make it easier to see under the unit. Then I use the nut driver or you can use 1/4 inch drive ratchet with sockets. To take the 2 screws out that hold the filter housing. Then lift the spring wire that is on the left side of the release botton. Then push the wire up out of the way. Reach back and pull the water value forward so you have slack in the water lines. Now you can pull the fliter housing out to you. Now release the 2 water lines by pushing down on the rings around the water lines and hold while you pull the water lines out. Now the old water filter housing is free you can set it to the side. I inspected the new filter housing for any deformities and cracks before I started installing. Now I hooked the water lines up by pushing them into the right size spring ring hole. Once lines was all the way in I pulled back on the water lines to make sure they were locked in place. Then I put a new water filter in and turned the water on to make sure of no leaks. Then I put everything back together in the reverse order I took it apart. Then I check the spicket to make sure everything was working right. After that I was able to push the refrigerator back in and then wipe everything up and I was done.

Both the ice maker and water dispenser in the door were not getting water.
I first replaced the water valve, but that did not correct the problem. I then replaced the filter, but still no luck. In the end, it turned out to the the water filter housing was malfunctioning and not letting water through the filter when the filter was installed (it did let water through when the filter was removed, however). I replaced the water filter housing and all worked well once again. The filter housing is not difficult to replace. The hardest part is figuring out how to remove the hoses from the filter. Just push the hose in while holding the plastic ring around the outside, then pull the hose back out.

Followed the directions from the video and almost everything went great. The toughest part of the repair was removing the push button cap from the old housing.

water filter not seating properly to allow water flow, replace filter housing.
Turned off water to frig and unplugged power. Removed screws holding water valve in back of frig in order to release water line going to water filter housing. Removed screws holding water filter housing in front of frig and disconnected two water lines going to water filter housing. Removed water filter housing and replaced with new. Reattached the two water lines to the new filter housing and remounted with two screws. Reattached water line to fill valve and remounted fill valve. Plugged frig back in and tested water flow out of water dispenser, good flow now to water dispenser and ice maker.

Water dispenser suddenly started filling very slowly. Changed the filter still very slow fill. Removed the filter and it flows great but i noticed water leaking out the filter housing outlet. Replaced the filter and again very slow fill. Do i need to replace the filter housing? Again without the filter great flow so it seems the switches and valve are ok.Thanks.

Hello Tim, thanks for your question! We would recommend changing the filter housing, as changing the filter did not fix the issue and ruled out the filter being the problem. It is most likely an issue with the connection to the water filter in the housing. We hope this helps, and good luck with your repair!

Every few days my water dispenser slows and i get a pulsating sound. I can fix it by removing and reseating the filter. But then it comes back in a few days. Also the filter takes a lot of pressure to seat and sometimes unseats on its own. Could this part fix my problem?
PartSelect logo
Hi James, Thank you for your question. If the water filter is not seating correctly in the housing, replacing the housing may help. I would check first to make sure that housing you have now is fitted correctly in the refrigerator and not causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Replaced water filter and no water comes out of dispenser.Removed new filter and notice water leaking from filter housing ports. Removed housing cleaned ports with air to blow out any foreign material. Reinstalled housing and filter, still no water come out of dispenser. I already replaced inlet valve.

Hi Joe, Thank you for your question. I would suggest then checking your micro switch in your dispenser area. You can test that part with a multi meter to be sure. If that part is also fine, the problem may lay with your dispenser control board. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

No water at the dispenser with the filter installed. I replaced it with a new filter and there is still no water. It works fine with the filter removed [bypass filter]. Do I need a filter housing?
For model number ED5VHEXVQ06

Hello Gary, Thanks for your question. There are a few parts to consider beforehand. First, test the water inlet valve with a multi-meter for continuity and replace it if it shows no continuity. See if the water lines are frozen and if they are receiving sufficient pressure as well. We would also advise checking the door switches for continuity, as they can cause the dispenser to not dispense water if they fail. I hope this helps.

When water is dispensed at the door in addition to the slow flow, there has been a buzzing noise. This happened also with the installation of a new filter.
For model number ED5FHAXst00

Hi Ed, thank you for your question. Usually when you are having an issue like that it is best to check the water filter for any dirt or debris that could be in the top. Otherwise you might have to look at your water inlet valve for being the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

When removing the filter to replace it, should any water be spraying within the housing? If it is, would this mean housing is bad and that is why dispenser is very slow with water and making ice?
For model number ED5LVAXWB05
PartSelect logo
Hello Gordon, Thank you for the question. The Housing should Auto Bypass so not water should be spraying or leaking while changing or removing the filter. We recommended replacing the Housing. We hope this helps!

I just replaced the water filter housing (whirlpool part # w10121138). I reconnected each water line, but the smaller one (not the one from the inlet valve) came loose and I do not know where/how to reconnect it. Please reply and advise. Thank you.
For model number ED5KVEXVB00

Hello Chuck, thank you for reaching out. To reconnect the water line, you may need to insert your water line into the port firmly, until the water line fits tightly. We have also attached a relevant video that may help you with the installation of the water lines. We hope this helps, good luck with this repair!
