Defrost cycle not kicking in. Refrigerator not cooling. Freezer working.
I replaced the control board first. The freezer back panel frosted up and the refrigerator warmed up again. Then I force (short option vs long) defrosted the refrigerator. However, a few days later the defrost issue came back again. Force defrost no longer worked, though likely due to a severe ice build up behind the freezer panel. I ordered the wire harness. I took off the freezer door (loosen four screws only), removed the tray rails, ice maker, thermostat housing and vent mounted on the freezer panel. The rails and the vent are a bit tricky to remove since no directions exist. I then removed the fan above the coils and then removed the wire harness. Installing the new harness is easy except that I had to modify one of the ground connections for it to mount properly. I tested the unit for 72 hours. The defrost cycle eventually kicked in (dripping onto a pan and sizzling sound). I then reinstalled all parts. No frost build up. Good to go!

Hi Olivia, thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not have an installation video for this part, so it may not have been something that you saw on our site. You may have been looking at a general video? We actually have a lot at our YouTube channel. There is this one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB8k6VzE294. However if you want to take a look at a list you can view that here: https://www.youtube.com/user/partselect/search?query=fridge+wiring. Good luck with your repair.

Evap coil is freezing up and not defrosting. I forced a defrost and the element is heating and defrosting the coil. I would like to test the freezer thermostat how to do it but it has no values printed on it and is built into the wire harness. I can cut it out of the harness and repair but without cut in and out values i am not sure how to test. I dont want to throw parts such as a harness and new board. I want to narrow it down. Thanks

Hi Adam, thank you for getting in touch. In order to check the defrost thermostat for the continuity. Set your multitester to the ohms setting. Place each of the multitester's leads on a thermostat wire. When your thermostat is cold, it should produce a reading of zero on your multitester. If it is warm, anywhere from forty to ninety degrees Fahrenheit, then this test should produce a reading of infinity. If the results you receive from your test differ from the ones presented here, then the defrost thermostat may be faulty. We would suggest replacing the defrost thermostat to fix the issue. It does not come separately. It comes along with the wire harness, part number PS12584385. We hope this helps!
